If you have a single vision problem such as farsightedness or nearsightedness, one pair of eyeglasses with a single lens power would be sufficient to provide you with clear vision. However, if you have more than one vision problem you should visit a Baltimore eye shop to explore multifocal eyeglass lenses.
Multifocal eyeglasses contain more than one lens power in order to correct your vision at all distances. If you have more than one vision problem, you will most likely need to get two different pairs of eyeglasses. One pair would be to correct your vision for activities such as reading, writing and activities that involve seeing close objects clearly and the other would be needed for vision correction for objects that are far away (ex: driving). The less expensive alternative would be to get one pair of multifocal eyeglasses each with a single vision correction lens; instead of spending money on two pairs of eyeglasses. Having to get two or more pairs of glasses and to constantly have to switch them is not only expensive but requires extra effort and care. There are different types of multifocal lenses that have different lens powers. Bifocals are a pair of eyeglasses that have lenses that have two different optical powers. They benefit those who have a need for both near and farsighted vision correction. They are designed so close vision is at the bottom and far away vision is at the top. They are designed in such a way that the bottom part of the lens is for close range focusing and the top is for long distance vision. Therefore, a person wearing bifocals would have to get used to looking up when they are focusing on long distance objects and down when focusing on nearby objects. Trifocals are similar to bifocals except that they have 3 different optical powers within a lens in order to correct vision at all distances.
